hello Ryan hello Rachel how you doing oh very yeah yeah casually just strolling along at the moment just feeling in the middle of a journey making my way downtown walking f sorry I don't I can't sing at all or else Terry Cruz will come into the room and demand to sing with me and I just don't have the energy right now for Terry but uh how are you doing overall all right just all right all right all right Governor we got a lot of funny Accents in this episode of the expanse I just want to state that right now we have a few new friends that we got to meet or ones that we've seen before but not for an extended period of time and I was just marveling that there's a lot of American and Canadian Actors very bravely putting on accents and it made me giggle quite a bit but Rachel I've already given some of it away but could you please inform everyone here what we're doing what this podcast is all about who we are this edition of the podcast is part of our coverage of the expanse we are both watching this show for the first time and documenting our thoughts and opinions Episode by episode that is correct we are fresh to this we're like the blue goo we're learning we're evolving we're changing with more more substances given to us and the substance being the episodes themselves uh we uh just growing in uh appreciation of the expense and uh we release these episodes for our patrons first so if you are not on our patreon you're really missing out because by the time this comes to you in the main feed you can go over to the patreon and and hear whole lot more episodes but without having to wait week to week and you get to be a part of that group Discord but the thing that everyone gets that is not exclusive to the patreon is Yum Yum energy and moments and everything yum yum Eternal because we're named yum yum podcast because of an iconic line of dialogue in Star Trek Discovery where a character licked her lips sexily threw her hair back and said yum yum out of nowhere makes little to no sense and we enjoy that line so much we love it we embrace it we are like the scientists with the blue goo in the expanse we just want to let it run wild and see what it does and we've been at it for years now with the yum yum in our hearts and mind and we give it to you as well we remind everyone that that happened that exists and we better get into it now Rachel what episode of the expanse did we watch today today we watched static and IMDB's description I feel like I get it but it also feels a bit too simplistic and misleading in a weird way um and that description is Holden and Miller butt heads about how the raid wasit handled in one scene they butt heads and then they go their merry ways and have fun Little Adventures on their own separate from one another you shouldn't even be on this station something you need to get off your chest there stop stop it hold done yum yum was a moment from stric Discovery that was very sexual in nature and it it turns everyone on when you see it because there's a sexy lady licking her lips and throwing her hair back saying Yum Yum and even the phrase yum yum just has a vibe to it m yum yum and we like to look at the episodes of the expanse we watch and just raise up what made us go yum yum what was something that uh maybe got us a little hot under the collar got our cheeks flushed and I am dying to know what it was for you o you want made first yes can I do I have to give an alternative to the Amos one this episode ah yes I think you've made it a rule that you will give a normal one and your annual Amos I did um your AA pick your annual Amos which annual is every episode I know that's not how annual works but give me an a word that goes with what we're doing here and I'll consider that my automatic Amos response yes your automatic Amos response your a so first off what is your normal one what is your Normy pick Rachel what's your Normy P Miller shaving which part was it the face when he did the hair face what about that made you lick your lips throw your hair back and say yum yum like there was something very aluring about his pissed off expression when he was shaving you know he's shirtless but he's like doing it with a very traditional sort of Razor situation A Cutthroat yeah extra manly Vibes with that very good pick and for for myself my my Normie pick was the scene in which two sexy ladies were in JY attire smacking a ball against a wall getting swey and I got I got flirtatious vibes from these two I'm I was just like okay is uh is uh I don't know the character's name but lady who is Johnson's right-hand woman is she uh she flirting here maybe maybe it's just me maybe they're just be good friends they're just going to be gal Pals that's what I'm thinking I'm thinking that uh Johnson's right-hand woman is is just a a good gal pal just helping out a fellow Bel just helping out a fellow belter tightening that belt on those pants for her so oh yeah given the come hither fingers just to come hither nothing else they're just slapping a ball there's nothing else to it so and then they went inv and then they went out dancing dancing dancing the night away until Naomi was real tired and sore she was so sore from dancing with just a gal poow she hit it too hard she hit it too hard just dancing that is there was nothing else being hit because she's just a gal who's a pal uh now what is your a your automatic aamos what was the r again response M retort uh what is it for you him at the bar with Miller and he specifically watching him do the shot oh you just like seeing that big muscly arm grab a little glass and just throw it back mmh static is an episode that we had a bit of difficulty nailing down when doing predictions last episode I got it pretty close I I made the just boldface assumption that the episode would revolve around the conflict between between Miller and Holden yet that was only a tiny tiny keynote here it was still pivotal it made Miller do what he did but consequences of that disagreement were felt more than them grappling with the nature of that disagreement they only had a direct confrontation once but it rippled through the episode but not in a way where I'd say this is what static is about no I want to know what did you think of it overall we've just finished watching it we haven't talked to each other about our feelings on it uh this is the third episode of the second season and uh it's following along from the previous to it's very much continuing to serialize the story yeah so and the pacing is still running at a a pretty good Pace with the pacing is running along very nicely but what are your thoughts on it I thought that it was a pretty solid episode but it is one of those ones that you do get with serialization of it's a setup episode like we're going to do this with Miller now we're doing this with Ava salara which is a bit of follow through but like it's follow through but also still set up so it's just like it's like Domino gets knocked over and it's just like that wind is going to shift in the next episode to knock the next one down good way to describe it overall it is taking a moment of pause and setting up the pieces to be played because the last two episodes were very go go go uh with plot plot plot and this one was setting up plot but it was taking more of a breather to have uh character stuff my biggest complaint with static is there are too many little plots that it is just padding and I didn't get much out of them there's even characters I love that are involved in just minor little things that are spinning the yarn and I just didn't care all that much uh I'm I'm obviously invested to see where it all goes but in this individual episode Alex's stuff left me cold a a salara I was I'm happy to see her but I was kind of hoping for more but that's just me being greedy because we've been given so much but it felt like season 1 again where it's like two scenes of her but that's my big complaint overall I actually really enjoyed this one I thought it was a step up from the last episode because we got a lot more time to spend with characters just sitting down and reflecting and talking to one another and just vibing we get time to have Naomi goes on a rave night party and Miller is having to listen to belter music and he hates the youth's music and the Mormons came in that was a surprise and I I enjoyed how there was a slice of life aspect mixed with the we've got to set up the stakes for our ongoing narrative what did you think of of that did that ring true for you at all yeah it was like characters I like doing things that I'm not that interested in of like I I like Miller a lot and it's just like okay he's setting up his next little bit of plot I really felt the hands of the writers in this episode but when it came to the character stuff I was like Yay I'm here I'm in it and I and you're gearing up again it's just like the the cycle it's like I'm I'm getting used to the roller coaster of the expanse and the way that they're doing things another thing that made me go oh okay I I'm I'm in this now was there was a certain Musical theme that they queued up and I was like oh we're very close to the end of the episode yes it was building building there were some sequences where they played hints of the opening credits music and it was actually effective I'm starting to notice the music now and I've said it before but I'll say it again having opening credits with a full score help helps me as a viewer get a better feel for the characterization that the music holds and I noticed that a lot more here in a positive way I didn't roll my eyes there was actually those little hits on the keys there that I I actually felt something and that when they played the hints of that opening credits it was the scene being commented on in a great way of of of them saying through music that see how we're tying to one of the core tenants of what this show is about and I really appreciated that it was an effective use of the music there let's go through some of the smaller plots first let's go shooty shooty bang bang he is upset that his obessed his ship is full of holes we see him very upset about that to begin with but then we learn what he's really upset about out what is he doing in this particular story he's running simulations of the attack basically my impression was that he was trying to figure out a way that he could have saved them and he's still not getting there but he's determined to find the way so that he doesn't have to lose anybody again and your thoughts on this overall I I like it and I don't like it I like the idea of him being like not wanting to fail and feeling the burden of those lost lives and it connects to the way that he was feeling about the bels that they did save from Aeros and that what at least one of them was on the ship I don't like where this Su kind of storyline will naturally go to and that where that Obsession often leads and the consequences of it I'm hoping that we get the good outcome which is since he is aggressively training himself to be a badass pilot that can handle a fight that when we get a big fight he will be able to handle himself and we the audience can have the catharus of having seen him throughout the season or just this singular episode actually attain the skills to do that when he previously did not because he started out as pilot guy who liked ship and then we learned he was a martian soldier at one point then we learned oh he was just a bus driver so to see him go from bus driver to legitimate Ace fight pilot is a fantastic Arc for a character on a superficial level I hope that's where they go but what you're saying is what I'm also dreading which is he's going to [ __ ] up again or he's going to be proven right about being the worst person hard or or push yeah like push people away or um the loss of people will finally break him because they raise in the episode why don't you go back to Mars now that or contact your family now that Earth has made their first attack against Mars openly and he has this strange reasoning as to why he won't do that which I feel is just a a blatant lie where he says well they'll think that I'm dead because I was on the Doner so I died a hero but how would his family know that he was on the Doner he wasn't serving on or did he say that he was his cover St like you know what I'm saying my big guess is he wait what because he said they'll think I died a hero because I went down on the Doner that's what he said that was his logic but how would anyone know that he if he said the can't that would make more sense yeah it would make more sense yeah I didn't think about that no but it's because a lie right he's lying my guess is Alex's family is dead and he's responsible for that in some way shap of form and he's carrying that guilt around with him everywhere he goes and hence he is feeling the burden of this because they've definitely leaned in in the small amount of time he's had on screen into Alex is the father previously in the first season they had him be more of the goofball Texan accented yeeha pilot guy yeah with moments of inner turmoil and here I feel like they're really really going into the his he's wanting be to be the dad of the group and since we know he is a family man I just think this is a natural progression of what you would do with a storyline but I'm just I'm just guessing at this point they think I'm dead
I went down on the
Doner died a
hero so is the Rousy going to be okay or what don't worry we're going to treat her like one of our own we like Alex right you like Alex I like Alex are you happy with what they're doing with him overall as a character I'm not talking about just this season but I'm talking about both I'm like I'm not mad about it but I'm not excited about it when's he going to get a story yeah he's sidelined he contributes to stories he has what these are which are the one or two scene ongoing let's touch base with Alex and that when you step back at the end of the season you can say well Alex had these things happened to him during the show but I would love an episode where he gets what Miller or Amos or Holden or Naomi gets where they get whole things to play with and he is often just standing there next to them yeah is that are we being too harsh I mean it's still early days of the show but I I felt like he was going to be far more of a Frontline main character than what he's turned out to be the fact that we can list so many things that the other members of our crew have done or are doing whereas with Alex it's just like the one thing is it the performance I like Alex a lot because of the performance I've said that from day one I really like this actor's presence the way he uh in does inflection of lines the the silly accent that the character has he just has a a general demeanor that I am gravitating towards and it's making me wonder if it is a lot of the weight is being carried because of such a Charming screen presence because if this was another show or another performer would we even talk about Alex in the frame of reference of liking him let alone thinking that he should deserve more because he's a main character quote unquote I'm I'm really not sure like it's just too early for me to tell it's just a seed and we don't know what it's going to grow into when we've covered other shows on this podcast like Star Trek Discovery primarily they all have amazing performers with material as sparse as Alex and will criticize it more heavily because the writing isn't backing up the actor and I'm getting that from Alex I'm very disappointed he was one of my absolute favorites in that first season because of the potential and I know only three episodes into the second season we've got more to go but in each episode it's just a oh here's Alex is over there too by the way and he's got a a little bit of sadness going on and I think what really he's always sad he's always sad now what detracts for me from this story as well is in the previous episode I just didn't really care about his guilts all that much because we didn't spend time on it and so we're coming back here and we're spending even less time on it and since I didn't care from the previous small amount of time we spent on it my my ability to really connect with the dramatic intent of Alex's overwhelming guilt is just very small I'm just I'm just finding it it's growing smaller and smaller do you have that at all yeah it's diminishing returns am I alone in saying this I was genuinely shocked my jaw hit the floor that we actually saw Earth attack that Moon within like in the next episode when they said that they were going to do it this was really a case of oh they're going to do that maybe later or it'll be stopped or they'll get detoured or something that that happened just like abisara said they weren't going to back down they were determined to do something so that was the least damaging thing that would pass but she follows up on it with our good friend Aron wght who's a piece of [ __ ] but in this episode he's being a piece of [ __ ] because he's just quoting Christian back at her throwing it in her face just saying the same rhetoric back at her and and quoting her just hey as you say we got to put Earth First o oof oof I got a lot of uh Babylon 5 whiffs in this episode with some of the ideas and language used here just when I hear Earth first I do think of B5 I know it's not unique but it's something that I thought about and when we see the interior of what the Mormon ship looked like it reminded me of what B5 looks like I know that's not unique either that's in a bunch of stuff that's what you're familiar with that's what I'm familiar with yeah but uh Christian is not too pleased with how things are going she's wanting to deescalate the crisis uh she even says that we have blown up their Moon imagine if they blew up our moon and the uh consequence like ah stop thinking of them like they're people how could you we're stronger than them yes they have better technology and better Marines than us but we just have more numbers it's a numbers game but Christian points out the uh flaws in his logic she uh gives him the correct facts and logic and God bless sha Doyle he doesn't get too much in the episode but he makes a meal out of it because the reaction shots that he has to her speaking the truth is really great because you can tell he as as a as as a a fellow Diplomat as somebody who's a higher member of you know high power representative of Earth he sees the wisdom in what she says but since he's also a little Whipping Boy he has to ignore it and just the facial acting and the and especially the expression in the eyes from Shawn Doyle really communicates him having to sit there going she's right but I'm going to have to spin away where it is not going to go the way she wants and I'm going to have to come up with something which is just ah Christian you've said it we've got to put Earth first so [ __ ] Mars yeah they have Marines but guess what we're just going to blow them up and don't worry oh I really like this trick did you notice this he deflected by saying hey we'll make sure Luna is okay and your husband and your grandkids he really puts the emphasis on her family and her vulnerabilities and her weaknesses well then on Luna and she's like what if they blow up our moon but did you get the sense that she was even referring to the Moon being blown up because she was concerned for her family no she's just empathizing with the Martians and she's relating it to how it would happen to us but he but no that can't happen here but he tactically makes it about her family yeah to to to throw her off to to push her off the paths that she's on hey don't worry we'll make sure that your family is okay Christian don't stress about it we're stronger we're going to protect your family who's up on the moon I know they're there too by the way Christian gets her spy guy she is a spy guy now I need to learn his name I like that character he's he's good he is the type of character where I don't need too much from him to like him while Alex I need more from him he's a main character for Christ sake this guy's a side character it's fine but he has the Fred Johnson stuff because of course he does he's just that good he's Robin Hood and I what did you think of the conversation before he gave her the thing to send off the message I really liked the way that it ended of you'll get bit of you when she's just like ah you don't have to s a ground for me actually doing this like you you don't need to be culpable and treason you don't want to be you don't want to be hanged as well uh and then his response is just like oh like I know that I'm like if this goes down I'm going down with you but you'll you'll have a better view likely meaning that you know they'll draw more attention and make a more public example of her treason here is concern which is anable trait to him because you could easily have this character just be a yes man or a Shifty guy or just gives her the thing he's just a function but him actually taking the time to say makes him a person makes him a person makes him feel alive he stops the momentum of plot and information and Exposition to touch base on the humanity that they're in this is a very human moment Christian you are at you are at a precip a precipice you're at a pivotal point in your journey if you do this there's no turning back and I want you to understand that and and she She lays it out she knows how it's going to play out but she needs it to play out that way and it's it's this type of writing that I really enjoy about Christi Jan's side of the story in the expanse and I think it is something that you like as well there's just moments of pause and moments of slowing things down and conversing that are given to her plots way more than the others she's playing the long game more than the others so they afford her that her role as the political one as the politician means that naturally you have to write the stories like this she can't have the action adventure show that everyone else is having she cannot be say what Fred Johnson is which she relates herself to like she is slowly becoming Fred Johnson where she's a beloved respected high ranking figure of Earth but is seeing the downfall of their way the downfall that is happening and she wants to help so she must turn away from Earth to help Earth but unlike Fred Johnson she's not a badass op person who can just throw people out an airlock and get into fist fights and shooty shooty gunships and things of that nature so as writers what do you give her you give her scenes that are conversations and how do you make those conversations more lively than just talking heads how do you do it you you you you make sure to dig into themes and character and you make it mean something beyond the literal you make it connected into Wen important on multiple levels giving us an idea of the character's head space but also their reasoning and an idea of where they might go with this all you need to tell me is that it can't be traced and that the message will get to him I saw it but the OPA leaks like a Civ just give it to me and go right now this is just a bad idea but you hit send and his treason if I do nothing millions could die she does contact Fred Johnson she sends a message message where she just tells the truth I've been lying I've been slandering your name blaming you but it's because I know that Earth is behind this and I'm afraid and I want to stop the war from happening I want the people to put their guns down and I need your help if you have anything that I can use use as evidence and help alleviate the tensions you must give it to me you must play whatever cards you have left right now and we see Fred Johnson and uh his right-hand woman who I have to look up her name at some point I think they said it I think it was like Kamina something like that cam I think I heard someone call her cam in this episode but they have a conversation in reaction to avas solara's plead and eventually they give her information which is about the stealth ship and she gives us another [ __ ] she says [ __ ] again and I'm very happy that she's swearing more because she's really good at it and it's one of the only things I know about the character is she swears a lot but what do you think about the the conversation between Fred joh son and he he his right-hand person about offering Aid to the enemy I like that that's given time that's given consideration and but we don't like the show doesn't waste our time with Will Fred do it or will he not because it's obvious that he will makes sense for his character makes sense for the plot of the show but it still takes the time to ask the question and it leaves it in the air and then we see the actions the consequences the impact of that decision not the IDE IDE that he would debate with her or it's like it his mind's made up when he watches the video yes and I like that it isn't a scene of unnecessary conflict between two characters she expresses genuine concern she raises very valid points about if he does this acknowledges it the ramifications and this episode you you stated that it's all about leading us to the next plot beat of we're going to take this 45 minutes and slowly set up the pieces and maybe knock one Domino piece down and one Domino piece down but it's also brilliantly tying in the ongoing uh idea that is in this and it's even in part in that description which is dealing with the aftermath Y and here this scene is that where Chris Jen in the previous episode is going to knock on Fred Johnson's door and say I need your help so here's a scene in which Fred Johnson himself is having to deal with what that brings to the table with a conversation with somebody he trusts somebody he knows and somebody who has the ability to voice their concerns and he's of he's a man of nuance he considers it he thinks it through and then he acts on it and I just wanted to go go over his performance as well because we weren't too sure if he had changed his performance as an actor between Seasons or if he was as the character putting on a face and a mask in the second episode I think that's more the case because we got him being the gry voiced barking orders like a soldier man Angry manic energy when he was in front of a load of people earlier and when he was standing ground between Holden and Miller or when Miller pissed him off but when he was in private with people he knows he was far more comfortable he was far more like in season one yep very regimented quiet calm he was levelheaded instead of coming across as a man who is just on on the brink of punching you so one of the places where our attention is focused rather than Ava salara is are new friends the Martian Marines having a little bit of a pissing contest and just a [ __ ] about the situation uh we get Ghana complaining and saying the exact same thing to her same Superior officer which looks like it could have just been filmed on the same day I swear no but you see she had punched the guy so her knuckles were a little rened in the scene very good touch I'm not lying that was there I saw that with my eyes yeah but that doesn't mean that it wasn't done on the same day they just put some makeup on her Knuckles so I'm getting a feeling that you loved the Martian Marine subplot here where it was hammering in the same Notions as before but this time Earth the context was different earth oh Earth's attacked now so we really need to attack them back and this guy's from Earth so [ __ ] him yeah but he's but he's a duster he's got dust in his veins just like you and me he's he's the best dust in his blood dust in his blood you I love that line you froth I love that line I love for the dust lines and the duster lines it makes me think of our good friend it makes me think of our good friend rip gaun belter I'm thinking he's dead because we haven't seen him in several episodes him and indis doors are just hanging out they're waiting in the wings to come back um I did not enjoy it I did not care for it I think it served very little purpose within the episode it's a like I already got everything that they were going on about like well the that dude was from Earth that people were hostile she's a rich lady she's a rich lady uh our main Marine thinks that we should attack but her Superior is following the chain of command but she will still do as she's told but she's breaking you can tell that she's going to eventually turn heal perhaps yeah that like her ability to say yes when she wants to say no is diminishing thus she has that uh break of willpower and just [ __ ] punches him there is a so so small Journey with these characters but it's so microscopic that I can say it out loud to you and you can argue that that wasn't there but also it is there which is this story is supposed to see them as a unit become friends and strengthen and they resolve is now one yeah but it's just like I got that feeling last time like they're a unit and they're fighting for Mars but they're also barket at us and now they're back to being a cohesive unit like they were at the end of the last episode well the inner conflicts the the interpersonal conflicts were not resolved but now they are resolved in a very after school special friends now I you a tool because he didn't talk he's he's a good Martian he didn't talk he proved himself again and and gunny I think is the is the name that they use for Draper gunny she went from I hate earthers this Earth is all right if this Earth is all right maybe but here's the really bizarre thing she never had a problem with him being an arther no she only punched him because she tried to break up the fight she got hit in the face while trying to do that and so she punched him out and so she punched him out but then they tried to spin it into some other like oh she just really wanted to do it she just got in on the brawl she's been holding it back and she actually had a problem she's never had a problem with this guy she kept defending him she was telling the other [ __ ] to shut up like it's just it just felt like a waste of time and it was checking it was checking in we're checking in with them because we didn't see them last episode oh man I wish that was their that musical number it was just checking in because we didn't have them last episode and then and they're new characters yeah so we we need them but like it also it felt like that that's a subplot in the books they said like it felt like it was a thing that that that happened and maybe it'll be important later or maybe it was just an more interesting it's when they it's it's so that I know I I Peg a lot of things that I don't like that just feel crammed in on uh it's probably in the books right it's a classic war story example now I'm willing to have the egg smashed all over my face but here's a prediction they're doing this so that when that team inevitably dies there's some weight given to it because she dra gunny has gone from having a worker relationship with them we we work together relationship to genuine Bond so that when they're taken away it just makes her snap or makes her go off and break away from Martian Marines or whatever it is I don't know but I'm so disappointed because wasn't gunny brilliantly set up in that first episode so like you already did this work I didn't need this check in disappointing I like the character still but disappointing followup more apprehensive going into the next time that we see them cuz I'm like are you going to waste my time again and I will gladly admit if that is wrong in the like retrospective this is what we've got for now and it was very boring to watch in the episode every time we cut over to them I was waiting for a new thing but it was the same thing and it was the obvious thing it came into full realization that oh this is this is like season 1 storytelling which we've stepped away from I've been very happy with how season 2 has been going we're only three episodes in but there's a definite Improvement it doesn't feel like it's wasting time and even though you say you feel the hands of the writers as do I at times it was it's never as aggressive as it was in season 1 but this here that was man I I don't want to say his name but I got some serious uh Havelock energy in terms of just tedium and and and just obvious it's obvious what you're doing and it was to fill out the episode and to check in on them are we going to just keep eating [ __ ] from Earth or are we going to take them out and end this what does that have to do with one of my sergeants assaulting a private you can only get slapped around for so long before it boils out one way or another I'm well aware of private Travis's background and the [ __ ] that he gets for being born on Earth if he'd been willing to talk you'd be thrown at The Brick right now but he wasn't that's how Martian he is Naomi is a character that we also want to like more but she she gets stuff to do but it never feels like it's as heavy as I want it to be but in this wants to [ __ ] she doesn't get to [ __ ] she goes play and plays future sport and then goes clubbing with her gal pal they're just friends she she didn't get to have any sexy time with her with her guy so she's just blown off steam with her with her new buddy just yep because you know she slept with hold in once so that means that they're together forever she's full now so she's going out on a night on the town I'm complaining about how Naomi doesn't get I want more gritty material because there's been hints of it and the actress is good but I'm going to be straight straight up with you I loved this so much Naomi just had a blow up with Holden in which everything she said was right everything she said was on Miller's side though it's ridiculous so I was on his side at the end of the last episode but she's totally right when it comes to Holden she argues in Holden's face that you guys were willing to side with a genocidal Maniac so that you can solve a problem but you're not thinking about the moral ramifications on of that on not only yourself but oh I don't know the belters that have been used as guinea pigs by this [ __ ] freak so screw you Holden I'm going to go party now because it would be too annoying to spend time with you talking I oh my God I really loved that Naomi's story was this Slice of Life thing just [ __ ] you Holden screw you Holden I'm just going to hang out with this new friend and we're going to play some sport we're going to get some beers I'm going to just dance to Funky rave music and then I'll come back and I'm sore from dancing so much it wasn't much but it was enough it was different too it was fun we don't get that type of fun in the show no oh that's a really good point this is a type of thing that Farscape would have done yeah this is this is that episode of Farscape where uh the one that you hated actually where the plot like I know where this the plot of De uh yeah of Doo and John having to save Jewel and Chana and whoever else from this weird Party Planet and everyone's just partying all the time and having a wicked time and they're all high on drugs yeah it reminded me of that but less weird as Farscape tends to be but I mean just to just to go over it it's not too much but is that an aspect that is a problem for you that the expanse is not a show that allows this type of fun all that often no cuz it it it works as a reprieve but it wouldn't feel right in the show because those aren't the characters that we are following makes sense that Naomi has gotten to this point that she needs to blow off steam and this is what she chooses to do she reconnects with being a belter and that sense of community and her like those sort of traditions and Things That Go with that Community like that type of sport that we see them play and the music and being surrounded by people and people who get what her tattoo means I I do find it a problem actually and this plot raised it in my vision because I've been thinking about it only in the periphery because it is a serious show it takes itself very seriously there's funny lines there's humorous moments and this with the lasagna scene in the first episode of season 2 has really made it so that Naomi and Alex are two characters more Naomi at the moment but they're the only characters to me that have the ability to say hey I have a life outside of the plot that the writers have put put me in I'm going to go out and party or hey why don't we all sit down and have lasagna and just talk like people instead of going through the plot or going through my heavy emotional Arc right now and that's what I liked about just this being a a casual blowing off steam yeah but I I I wouldn't like it I don't think if it became each episode somebody's got this kind of thing going on no I agree I like it sprinkled in they just need to have a bit better of a mixture with the characters not feeling like they exist to just further the story but that that is Holden that is him by Design but I'm saying all of them I love Chris Jen but what is she outside of the story that she does what is she I know we could go over a character but like I I I don't know in terms of like how I do with Naomi here or sort of 3D dimensionality everyone is their job or their function a little too often yeah it's getting better it is getting better there's that's why I like this episode a lot because they had many people just kicking back saying hey hey writers I know you've got a big mystery happening right now and you need to figure out how I the character that's important but so is this I'm just going to get a drink at the bar until until the BART Tender Cuts me off and she drinks my shot and I'm really upset they have hey that was her tip that was her tip that they have far more moments like that that's what I need more of those little humanizing things that say we are not just writing characters for the sake of telling a large narrative they're not porn their people do you not agree with Miller I do and I don't I do and I and I don't like I get Holden's perspective but like I also know that Miller is right but you feel uneasy to land it's a tricky conundrum yeah and that's part of what they know they're doing as well because at the end of the last episode the team was faced with the ultimate thing do you get all of the answers you want right now but to do so you're making a deal with the devil which is the the evil scientist guy who they said his name a bunch in this episode but I'm just going going to keep calling him evil scientist guy he was he was offering them everything I I'll tell you who's behind this I'll give you all the data and science information you'll need I'll give you the answers to the blue goo but the tradeoff was horrendous and I agree with Miller now what makes it great for television is I can agree with Miller whilst also being annoyed with Miller because he shoots the guy in the head and he just decides that he has the right to do that and takes away the autonomy of everyone else in that room and it's a really loud and Brash act and he knows that there's going to be again consequences an aftermath a mess to clean up afterwards but he doesn't care because to him it's a right thing to do and he does what Miller does which is he'll live with it and he takes action Miller is the guy that says oh I don't like this so I'm going to do it I'm just going to fight against it that was him in season one Miller do your [ __ ] job no I want to keep investigating this Julie thing that was his character in season one yeah and how do you feel about how that mentality is evolving not only within the character but the writer's ability to use it in the narrative I like it I appreciate it I'm interested to see where it goes what about it is different to you or has gotten better I guess there's a stability in their approach to it now and we also know Miller better so we're seeing it as a pattern and as a reflection of his personality rather than them being like like go forth wreak havoc do plot be Maverick cop be archetype be the Trope hatas Miller is superior Miller I agree with him because he is taking a moral stand this scientist were had no remorse he he did not care he was is not going to fix anything screw those people we need to test on them if you side with me I'll give you all the information you want but but let me keep doing my work let me keep doing the work because you will see that I'm right and that is the reveal Miller killed the guy because he was speaking sense but that was terrifying it was horrific and he throughout this episode we learn is becoming a belter once again and he was aware as is Naomi that the belters are the ones that are going to be used and abused with this they're the people who get stomped on look at what happened AOS there's well 100,000 people or more on there and their lives meant nothing because they're just belters so he shot the guy and I cheer I go good on you Miller because there's something really wonder wonderful about seeing the quote unquote morally righteous characters like Fred Johnson and Holden Bend and and get tempted to do something that would be atrocious like you the viewer would not like which is to team up with a Nazi scientist yes to be tempted by the devil or team up with a Nazi scientist but then you have Miller who is not the morally righteous protagonist he is the gritty [ __ ] up Maverick Co Noah he's the Noah guy and so when he comes in and says I'm going to take the moral High Ground here and just [ __ ] kill this guy because it's the right thing to do that's interesting I know that you know that Dresden was going to get away with it I didn't kill him cuz he's crazy I killed him cuz he was making sense I wasn't expecting Amos to come out on the side that he did come out on but I don't know no like you get that he understands where Miller came from and the decision that he made and he tries to explain how he would have done it essentially Miller's like [ __ ] [ __ ] you would have asked permission you would have just shot him like I did don't pretend you're any better than me but I believe Amos cuz that like the character we know wouldn't bother lying about that he doesn't care about the way that other people perceive him but he does ask for the okay what is amos's standpoint though what did you what did you gather from what he said you follow the chain of command that was the main thing that I took of like I like yeah killing people whatever but you you follow the lead of the people who are above you you work as a team th thus like he he the one to deliver Miller his stuff right but he's also the one uh that is closest to he he's the other character that in Miller's position probably would have pulled the trigger definitely um but he ALS decides to stay with the
crew I took it that he sees Holden's innocence and righteousness as something to uphold protect protect and in world hasn't broken Holden and if he can be where he is at now and he is speaking these values then I should deliver on them even if like I myself am not capable of them because he agrees with Miller I agree with that as well he agrees with Miller he says we're the same we we've grown up rough lives we know how the game is played we know the streets but uh he actually Amos has a conversation or two with people in the episode about knowing the harsh realities of life that to pedophile Holden is incapable of knowing because he is a person of privilege and innocence and uh oh he's so so righteous but instead of taking that oh he's so righteous with Venom and anger and like oh he was spared kind of thing there's not a jealousy to it which would have been an easy thing for them to do it's just a very pragmatic way of looking at it he is of this opinion there must be something to it so I'm going to try and uphold it and Miller can't argue with it he can't argue but one of the great things about Amos as a character the way that they've constructed him with his mental landscape and his uh emotional inabilities or walls that he has up and the way that the actor plays it when Miller does the thing that I love so much in conversations between two characters that are on opposing sides yet they obviously would agree on the thing as well is he says well you would have done it in my situation like you and I aren't different but I wouldn't have done it in the same way but Amos he can have people tell him the straight up truth and he's like point out the hypocrisy of the thing and instead of taking the bait and biting it or getting angry or denying it or whatever the case is it just washes off of him it doesn't matter because Amos that's him you can tell him things say you shot my friend in the head like a dog and that upsets you that upsets me so I want to kill you if I did that to Naomi you'd want to do the same yeah sure but whatever it just washes off of him and this is another one where if you were there you must you most likely would have killed this guy am I wrong no you're not wrong but I didn't so it just washes off that's not the way that it happened so no need to worry about it he's one of our Good Guys Amos like he's on the good guy team because it's a it is a level of hypocrisy it is a level of tursh behavior imagine if you were in that conversation how how FR how frustrating would it be to know that Amos could do whatever he wants and it's perfectly Justified but if you do it it's not justified it's but yet I like him yet I like Amos like I'm not looking at Amos as he's a bad guy he's an evil man they've made him so understandable yet mysterious that I I find him intriguing rather than disturbing Diego friend of Dora is
back oh I get that reference that's a you know I've never watched Adora the Explorer thing before we were too we were too old for that yeah I she came after our our time I watched it because of my nieces and nephews his name is Diego yeah yeah yeah I'm pretty sure he he has his accent that he does so it sounded a bit different to me like it sounded like Diego but with the with the funny belter Accent on top of it so I'm like am I supposed to say Diego or am I supposed to say Diego but with the accent that he's doing I don't know what the thing is with this I mean I've said it before characters and pronunciations are all over the place because nobody behind the scenes has agreed how to say things but he's back he's back Rachel and what's it what's happening with uh with a rock hopping friend he goes up to Miller and the bar and gives him a place to stay well first he steals his drink yes yeah uh which I do wonder if that's one of the reasons why the like the bartender it's just like oh you're bringing these trash in with you you're done you're done like you almost finished the bottle I was mostly leaving you alone but now now these rat bags are here here I don't want them I don't want to deal with them they did hit on her immediately immediately they're like she called out a taser yeah little taser I I do adore that the other guy that's there with a rock hopping friend is the big musly doofus guy that Miller told off in the previous episode who had that perfect reaction to come on guys we're supposed to keep some of them alive and even he reacted like oh jeez like he is right I I let him down this time I like that that guy is there I hope to see more of him because he he just is that he's a big dude but he has such goofy Expressions he was so goofy the little bit of business that I liked in that scene was when Miller tries to walk back the opposite way and both of them are like no it's this way yeah when they're leaving the bar yeah like they don't even think of oh he doesn't want to go with us it's just like oh no it's not that way I had a heart attack when I saw this because I looked at it and said oh no don't make it that Miller's teamed up with the kid for the season I was scared of that as well to be honest this is the second episode in a row just like that that one main scene that um back at his place where they uh just paired up alone I fear it because it's Gruff detective teamed up with teenage Rebel goofy kid but I'm going to I'm just going to own up to it that's a bias because in the two episodes we've gotten I am not going to deny that strangely enough these characters and actors have great chemistry together I I I'm I'm I don't want to look away but AP part ofy does because on paper and in previous experiences is this this pisses me off this makes me grind my teeth this makes me want to just run out of the room but in these just two episodes that we've had I've liked it I've I've I've enjoyed it I I really think it's down to the chemistry of the actors and just The Odd Couple relationship of the characters that's inherently built in but we go back to uh our I want to keep calling a rock hopping friend Diego apartment his little house where it's such a teenage boy room I love the like the magazine cutouts of women in underwear or bikinis or like skimpy outfits just like in every shot around everywhere and he's blaring his weird te techno future music and can we just talk about the future music we covered on the podcast space above and beyond a series that I'm not a I'm it it clearly had some influence on the expanse there's several elements that have carried over that were pretty unique to space above and beyond as a television series and so maybe you just think that cuz you've watched that one maybe you're right but they had in the first episode of space above and beyond someone turn on the Juke Box in the background of a club or a bar and it played instead of contemporary 1990s rock and roll or or old school jazz or blues or whatever they instead played music that we haven't heard before they made music specifically because this is the music that people listen to in the future and it was weird cynthy techno whatever and I don't see that enough usually in Star Trek or Babylon 5 they listen to music that already exists like classical music I'm listening to classical music or or oh did you know that Elvis exists so I'm listening to Elvis or swing music is back in fashion but the expanse does the exact same thing as space above and beyond and the the nudie ladies on on the mirror on the screen in the background made me think of Wang in space above and beyond as well within the first or second episode where you see on his bunk he has nudie ladies and sports teams and stuff it made me think of that as well just a neat little detail but the future music it actually has a purpose in the story I I I was shocked I was shocked that it had purpose I thought it was just there to be like his young and annoying background of Naomi's dance club scene as well so oh yeah um we hear that style of music if not like that specific sort of song throughout the episode they use it as a montage a party Montage that music I didn't even yeah you're right I didn't even fully think about how that music was woven through the episode but what is the what is the deal with the music cuz he Diego does go over it a bit yeah so he explains that they're intercepting the transmission from Aeros that's the the data stream and uh somebody's used it to make music Belta music they're still broadcasting it out there and if that means it's being broadcast out there that means stuff is happening inside AOS station Miller gets very excited by this because he has been very upset during the episode that it's gone he killed the guy that potentially could have reversed everything but even he doesn't believe that but with that being the case it's over all of those people are dead but something's happening in there that means people must be alive or some assemblance of Life maybe the blue goo is tinkering around in there if they're pumping out the data stream and music and doing [ __ ] and he sees Julie again when he's about to shave his uh hair into a nice Mohawk I love the Mohawk by the way fan of Mohawk Miller I'm loving the continual evolution of his look you don't choose anything you're born into it man one side or the other you play it
out you know in those iners I figure figure out what's on arrows they kill every last one of us to get it us belters you at the beginning of the discussion expressed your annoyance with the writer's hands specifically you used Miller's story as the example of it getting in the way of your viewership it was something that held you back could you just uh go over that a little bit more in detail because I I was a I actually really liked his story overall because I don't know it just for me I was happy to see them weaving him being the cynic to somebody who actually Embraces who he is to then formulating a plan yeah I do appreciate it more after some discussion of it but it just felt like them moving him into position of confirming that he's not welcome back on the Rossy he's back on his own thread and this is where he's going to be heading to like all of the stuff itself was interesting but I was less invested in it because I could see several steps ahead M it was another one of those episodes and Miller's plot was the best example of it where I saw from like 10 minutes in where the episode was going to end these characters are going to be here this character is going to be here this character is going to be here this character is going to be here and it was pretty much bang on of like alisara will get her message to Fred and she'll get maybe get her reply Holden will still be really pissed and be trying to figure out the solution and how to use the prisoners that they have Miller is going to be set up with something new to do and his connection with Julie is going to be a part of it yeah I I understand what you're talking about because that has been a complaint I've had with episodes as well why didn't bother me in this and I mentioned space above and beyond a moment ago but that that series had this problem as well but it was alleviated by what I think this episode contained which is the story is a framework for character yeah and there were points where I didn't feel it as much but there wasn't enough character stuff that I could sink my teeth into because the SCS are really short because they're doing a lot that's why I complain that there's too many stories and so some of them don't get time to breathe Millers I actually thought had the most time to breathe I am I did not think I would ever say this but I criticized so hard in the first season the you're a belter underneath that hat except being a belter so when he actually accepted being a belter he actually said that he was a belter in this episode I am I am truly shocked that I actually cared I actually felt something about it instead of rolling my eyes or sighing or clapping in Ecstasy of finally we got here because it was a beat that they hit over and over and over and over and over again in season 1 but since they haven't done it too aggressively in season two when they naturally fell there in this story it felt earned to me if this happened at the end of season 1 I don't think I would have cared honestly but since this is a new season and it has a continuation but it's also its own thing when he when he shaved his hair and he bonded with the kid about how they're both belters and we had the cut over to Naomi bonding with another belter I I found it genuinely compelling something that was one of my biggest problems with a character in the first season actually amounted to something did you have that at all with with Miller because this is a thing that's been building since the first episode when's he going to accept being a belter yeah I was just like no he said it out loud now it was a very similar sort of reaction that I had to it being pointed out that he was in love with Julie to be honest you said that you had things pretty bang on the money when it came to the outcomes I was a a bit taken a back when the Mormons suddenly entered the story and Miller with his fresh new haircut said I'm going to interact with these little freaks now sorry but I wasn't really no is it because I had shots of the ship no it was Fred's line there are like hundreds of ships that leave here every day pick one and you'll be on it and I was like what will be the most inconvenient ship to pick the Mormon one but did you think that he was going to do what he did in the end no no I didn't I didn't I didn't think that I I was just like oh he's going to end up in the Mormon ship somehow but I didn't like know what the journey to get there was going to be I I love the Mormons you love the the moments they were good in this episode I I I I really liked that Elder I thought thought thought he was really sweet and really genuine it was he doesn't know that he's getting ConEd that's what I was going to say I was getting I was like oh you poor man you think you got a new recruit but he's using you we got I got con I don't know if you're brave enough to admit that you got conned as well but I I thought we were going to get a repeat conversation or style of convers that he had with the previous Mormon he the way Thomas Jane played it and the character of Miller played it he he he had this real sense of I'm a man lost at sea but I have my compass and I know what way I have to go and now I've arrived here and I may maybe maybe that is where I need to go now I need to find direction everybody's telling me this and I want to hear your story so that it can strengthen what I need to do next which which is true that part's true CU it's it's the best kind of lie it's got a little bit of Truth in it but he played them he played them let's before we get to the reveal of how he's playing them or what he's doing we get finally some actual conversation about their ship about their Ark we get to see the inner design of it and how it works and what it'll look like over time as well and the problems of making a giant spaceship yep I going back to the conversation that that [ __ ] had with Fred Johnson ages ago now I'm a nerd when it comes to these type of specifics so this tickled my fancy but oh you also love yourself a generational ship I love generational ships that's a that's a favorite thing of mine in science fiction but it goes beyond just tickling the nerd bone because it goes into being story it is not just Exposition for the sake of well guys here's how this thing works but they are giving him information so that he can use that against them that's the story that's the story is he's coming here to get reconnaissance on this ship and he's going to use it for some nefarious plan and I I love that of just making something that for myself as a viewer oh you're giving me answers and you're filling in the picture for me on something that I've been really wanting to know about like the inner workings and the complexities of this space Arc ooh but instead of just doing that science fiction trapping that TV shows fall into ofing something else as well it's building upon it y it's that that's why I H one of the reasons why I have trouble just sort of fully riding off the Marine plot in this episode is because I don't know if it will matter later because they have done that and they are continuing to do that within episodes and across episodes so I'm like like I thought that it was a bit [ __ ] now but who knows yeah yes but you you still need to be entertaining within the episode you're doing that yes yes the better better on to do hence Miller mhm because that was entertaining yes that was thrilling I you and I looked at each other and said Miller the Mormon and we were joyous when saying it yeah and he comes into Fred Johnson at the end and has a plan he has a little scheme he knows that they have to destroy iro station he's not Mr let's find a cure he knows how to be honest and upfront with Fred in a very specific sort of way and I really like it I really like their Dynamic like he gets Miller and Miller gets him but they're not going to agree and they're not friends it also shows how slippery Fred Johnson is as a character because his reaction has been to oh let's find a cure Let's help these people they're our belters they're our brothers there's still a way to save them let's interrogate these prisoners Holden you're the reasonable one here but as soon as Miller comes in and says you and I both know that that station needs to be destroyed and he turns around and says well of course but I just don't know how to destroy it easily that's roundabout what Fred Johnson's point is that says so much that Fred Johnson has so many different personas he plays up for people he is as politically minded as Ava Solara but he is in a in a different in a different world to her I think I got something she can use you spaced a black Sky faction leader because they put a hit out on that woman if they learn that you're helping her the OPA will put a hit out on you well then I guess it's going to have to be our little secret then huh the main thrust of the story I think is a weakness to the episode because inherently it's about getting an exposition dump yeah as much as I've enjoyed the stories The Slice of Life nature the spending time with characters the ability to give us World building and Exposition in more natural ways this the story that Holden and Amos have to go through is he is a prisoner that has pretty much everything we need to know but he's not going to tell us so we have to find out a way to make him tell us we learned some stuff about the prisoner he is his background he had this instant in his youth he has a similar upbringing to Amos so Amos can relate to him but he has no empathy uh this prisoner because the mad scientist removed his empathy with evil science yeah we're assuming that that was him they make it sound like it was him and the the the prisoner guy says he loves that evil scientist cuz he made him the man he is today an emotionless
zombie and that is good but you know at the end of it all whatever the way they get him to talk it means that there will be a long monologue to give us a give us stuff and what did you think of overall this this because everything kept tying back to how will Holden and Amos and Fred get this guy to talk and what will the guy say once we get him to talk thoughts it was fine it did its thing I didn't really care about it that much I I was just like oh fine this is happening it wasn't the stuff that I was really interested in I was like okay go ahead go ahead do it do it just just do it already but it had Holden failing because he was being Mr Good Boy goody to shoes he was being good cop and good cop doesn't always get results because Holden was trying to get this guy to see reason to have emotions and react like a normal person would and even after he found out that the guy's empathy was removed from him Holden still couldn't really figure out the way to communicate with this person but this gave Amos plenty of stuff to do in the episode and so I thought you would have liked it a little bit more because not only is it an Amos Centric story and he's the guy that comes up with the solution but they did it in a lot of ways without without words because Amos is a guy that doesn't need a lot of words to carry a story no and I I did enjoy that but
it I go back to the fact that it just felt serviceable it wasn't elevated in any way for me really it was just like yep that makes sense get that character to do that thing and that thing and that thing and then you're going to say this thing and we're going to get this and then it's going to lead into the next would you say that this team of writers are capable at doing procedurals because this came across like a procedural here's the suspect or he is the per and we need to break him and get the information and that's what Miller was in season one here's these kids stealing water we need to get the evidence have locks on the case with me and we didn't we didn't like that no no but
like I don't like it in general when they are doing the we moving the pieces kind of stuff and I think it's just easier to see with those plots ah I understand what you're saying I just look at this in a similar vein to how they handled the cop crap in season one but inste of I agree with that I agree with that that we don't find the writing of procedurals riveting or very successful in the expans there is a there is an Artistry to doing that and they do it okay enough yeah and that's in a way not good enough it's it's it's a trouble something to be in you notice the Gap there's a gap they're really skilled at doing the political drama they really skilled at doing the Intrigue aspects last episode The the info dump from the evil scientist and how we got to there was far more exil ating than the one in this episode yes yes there's different ways that these writers get to the answers and when they do it through the let's shine a spotlight on a guy and yell at him to tell us the answers and we haven't figured out how to do it what's the way to do it it's not as good as some of the other ways they've done it and yeah I just don't think they're great at doing this type of Storytelling and unlike the previous one where we got the mad scientist and he said all the info that one wasn't as inherently clear that it would end with oh we're just going to get an exposition done well this is okay when are we going to get it and is it going to be worth it and it was pretty good I liked what we found out but there's just something about television where I watch it and I get very exasperated when I know we're just going to get a block of texts dispensed at me yeah it it doesn't make it doesn't make for intriguing viewing have you ever talked to a
pedophile we try to ask some stuff and they're not going to just talk about raping little kids but if you show them pictures of kids then they'll go on and on and on had a private chat with cazar and Os is his pedophilia you were talking about stopping it taking it away that's why I wouldn't help you the blue goo is on the Move It Is Alive it is learning it's making something they State what it is again it's this evolution of life it is something bigger and greater and the scientists need to feed it to it we needed to give it a Bigg test so 100,000 people should have the trick we and and we started small we went bigger we we got all of this information just let me at it just let me at it it does things differently each time there hasn't been a consistency and it learns what was better than oh it learns is oh it's it's building something over there by the way it's so my theory is that it's sort of uh like your favorite episode of Babylon 5 exogenesis no where it's like taken over the li like the life forms and it's like sort of meshed itself in there like a parasite oh okay I and it's going to continue to evolve because I'm like how else are their voices I was going to say this makes me think of a mixture of the of the thing from the thing and the Bor where it's consumed all of these individuals and has made them into itself so it itself is a bioorganic weirdness but now it has all of these voices these Minds to help fuel it and I I don't know if it's going to be you from a body snatcher situation where we're going to have like a Spore version of Kenzo and Julie and all of those people or if it's going to be one big like Mass did predict more that Kenzo would return and Kenzo will return but we haven't return to Aras no but we're being promised to go there because yeah the characters have motivation has a Death Wish Miller wants to go down there and stop what's going on they're building it's building something what do you think it's building this is I guess going into predictions but it is the central question that you get yeah I think it's building a way to get off the station yeah that's my thought too uh I think it was building a ship to fly off or building another it could be another thing to generate more blue goo um could be a some kind of portal to where it came from oh of course if this was really like the thing it would be Wilfred Brimley building a little UFO spaceship in Antarctica if it was really wanting to go there but I'm not too sure the lame answer would be a weapon obviously oh it wouldn't it be interesting because it's beaming out audio and data it could be trying to transmit back home to wherever it came from to bring things here that's stuff that the scientists set up yes but it's using it but is it using it on purpose I would think so if it has voices and it seems to have a Consciousness and it's building why not them are they are around the equipment just haven't bothered with it I that's why I'm guessing this could be like the Borg in that Enterprise episode where they they transmit to the Borg in the Delta quadrant to come over here and that's why the Borg were on their way over I'm I'm I'm just spitballing here but that's the blue goo oh yeah yeah I I know that it's just guesses since we're in predictions anyway do you have any further predictions for where we'll be going the season or the next episode um I think we're going to start to tackle the challenge of getting Miller on that specific ship uh getting him on that boat and seeing how that works out I really want this but I don't think it will happen of them recruiting a Mormon or an ex Mormon m i i I just really like that idea I think we aren't going to see gunny again I don't think you think she's going to be an every even number OD numbered episode sorry yeah maybe I don't know I just feel like they're going to deal more with Christian trying to put a stop to the Brewing War then how that particular Martian is after the war like want it I was trying really hard not to say gunning after gunny gunning after I like I didn't even mean Christian does have the stealth ship info so she will probably just leak that out into the world how is she going to do that and what impact is it going to have on the situation with the Martians um and is it going to work in her favor or blow up in her face I think that Holden is going to get pulled into Miller's plot to go to AOS Aeros yeah I think that they're going to be forced to engage with each other again again but for the greater good and for the greater good of the audience cuz they're surprisingly fun characters to see interact but we didn't say say it too much but it was great to see in this Amos really step up to the plate and utilize a really sick method to getting the information out of the guy which is just keep talking to him about the stuff he likes because he's a little freak uh yeah have you talked to pedophile before was a great line just he said it so casually and the way that holded reacted was shock no I haven't [ __ ] talked to how much experience do you have doing I bring that up because I'm predicting that we're going to learn about amos's backstory in this season I I think it's I think we going to get more of an explanation of the CH and how he met Naomi yeah uh season prediction at the moment and what I want from the next episode is and I don't think they'll do this but I want it cuz it' be fun I want Fred Johnson to assign a group of people to do an undercover Caper Heist into the Mormon ship and pretend to be Mormons and we get to see them in the little outfits and they're having to learn the Jon and we get to see the inside of theer to be on that team that's what I'm saying he has to be the of it yep I want Miller on that team and there's that one Mormon who saw him on the spaceship in the season one hey it's you I want the Belta the is big and Goofy yes yes and he has to cover up his I I want that to be the team oh my Lord and of course dream team and of course Naomi's galp pal she has to be there too no no no I think she's going to be back on Tao with Fred and they're going to be exchanging look they're going to be the ones talking in their earpieces don't mess this up don't mess this up don't punch that Mormon we need that one alive oh yes that's what I want he got me hyped but Ryan we need to rate this yes I'm excited what do you want to rate this out of our scale of yum being bad yum yum being good yum yum yum yum I have like I have faults with it but I am at the point where I see that as my problem coming to the episode not a problem with the episode I give this a yum yum yum yum I like the season premiere more but it also it's also because it's a fantastic kicking off point for a season that's not necessarily representative of what a average EP what an average episode looks like so I'm looking at this third one as what an average episode looks like and I want more like this it's not perfect but it's it's a step up and it's an improvement of quality from the first season what is the name of the next episode we're watching by the way so episode four is obviously up next godp speed godspeed that means Mormons have to be involved I know that they've teased us but they got to be they've got to be they've got to steal their ship and at God speed I I I don't I don't want that I don't want that just yet I want more buildup I want that Caper on that ship I I want lots more Mormons Amos we need you to put on the Mormon tie but the shirt barely fits me Captain my muscles are just too Rippling in their little white t-shirts the buttons I don't wear buttons because I just have such Rippling muscles Rachel's fanning herself because that's such a hot image somebody draw us if there isn't already out there him as an Amos as a as a Mormon with uh Rippling muscles I'm just saying put it on our desk by the morning or else we'll be very disappointed okay but that is all we have for our discussion on static which great title for this it does keep coming back to the the beam of audio and the static and the music good work there I actually forgot what the title was until I looked at my notes and then it was one where I nodded along going that's actually pretty good it's a onew but simple where can people find us on the internet Rachel they can find us on the various social medias under yum yum pod or yum yum podcast which are conveniently linked in that description you can contact more directly at our email address which is yumod gmail.com and like we mentioned at the top of this episode we do have a patreon where the episodes for the expense uh come out ahead of time and there is so many other things there for you to listen to as well as a Discord where you can chat with us and other lovely lovely I'm just so hrys yum yum such as yourselves such as yourselves I just want to thank everyone for tuning in and listening it means a lot uh not only just getting the support from our patrons but from you the average listener and it's just been really great to be putting out this stuff going through the expanse and we've been enjoying it and been getting a lot out of talking over each episode and hearing from people and their thoughts and reactions to what we've said and uh yeah just thank you all so much for that uh and thank you for listening to the outro thanks for listening to the outro but we've got to go now because the gaunt belter we've got to track him down do you think him and havlock are going to show okay is havlock going to be in this season I don't want it but do you think no no no okay no I think we're done do you think Anderson dors will be in this season yes why they haven't they' barely even mentioned him at this point yes but they did did like they mentioned him closer to the end of last season and they mentioned the OPA a lot and he's really link to it he's been set up as too much of a figure that is true but I could see the gaun belter assassinating Fred Johnson for his treasonous acts and he'll say to him he'll say you bloody duster but Fred Johnson's not from Mars doesn't matter the accents fun to hear though that guy a [Music]
duster see you then Wella
